All About Abraham And Lot

What if you left everything that you know to follow a promise, but you have no idea when that promise will be fulfilled or when in will come to pass. All you see is wilderness and open fields as you move and dwell from camp site to camp site believing and having faith. You are hanging on to the faith in your Heavenly Father, but things look bleak and the enemies city, treasures, and comfort looks very inviting. What are you going to do? It is often that we find ourselves in a predicament where we are having to choose who it is that we serve in our lives. Do we serve the devil, our selves, or The Heavenly Father? So I ask you to think about this as we speak on this topic of looking at Abraham and Lot, and the difference between full faith and a lukewarm follower.

Genesis 12:1-4 (KJV) Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Abraham and Lot were uncle and nephew and were very close. When Abraham received a word from The Heavenly Father for him to leave his fathers house and go into the wilderness, Lot left with Abraham. Although Lot and Abraham grew in abundance together, soon they out grew their dwelling place and they soon had to separate. There was an abundance of growth from Abraham and there was an abundance of growth from Lot and there began to be fights among the herdsman for space. Abraham offered for Lot to take first pick of land to dwell in. Abraham said to his nephew “ If you go to the left then I will go to the right, and if you go to the right then I will go to the left”. Lot looked and chose all of Jordan which was close to Sodom and Gamora. Abraham received an empty open plan and field. This might seem like a simple choosing of land, but it shows what they booth had their eyes and hearts on. Lot had first pick and he choose the world by choosing land occupied by a wicked people who did not know Yahweh, and he desired to be closer to the city. Abraham received the open land and had his eyes and heart on Yahweh and his promises of descendants and nations.

As time went on Lot began to live right on the outside of the city for comfort, leaving the presence of Yahweh and the faith into the wilderness. Lot constantly fell into unfortunate situation after unfortunate situation. Going from being captured as a prisoner because of a war between the surrounding cities in Jordan, to then choosing to dwell in the city of Sodom. If it wasn’t for the mercy of The Heavenly Father telling Abraham that he was going to destroy Sodom, Abraham would not have pleaded for the righteous that dwell in Sodom. Because of Abraham’s pleading and prayers the Lord sent Angels to get Lot and his family out of Sodom to save them from destruction. Our prayers are important especially our prayers for others. The word says for the saints to pray not only for ourselves and our loved ones but to pray for those who cannot pray for themselves as well. After Sodom and Gamora was destroyed, life was a little difficult for Lot because he became very afraid to dwell in to anymore cities. So he and his two daughters went to live in the mountains in a cave instead of the city of Zoar.

Genesis 19:24-28 (KJV) Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:

And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.

The story of Abraham and Lot really shows the difference between a person who follows The Heavenly Father, having their eyes on the promises of the Lord. And a person who is lukewarm in their walk, having their eyes on the world and what it has to offer. We need to ask ourselves which one are we, and be honest about our self observations. Do we have our eyes on The Lord and his promises in our own lives and in the world to come. Or do we have our eyes on this world, where we think the future is here in this time, and we only have one life so we should just live it up. We need to remember as Saints in Christ that we have our eyes on the promises of Yahweh and our ever lasting life.
